Today I hit a huge milestone, a milestone that I honestly never thought would be possible in my life. I ran my first Half Marathon and it felt amazing.
My initial plan was to run 11.3K and maybe do a little biking afterwards but when I hit the 11K mark I kept going. Thinking about what it would be like to complete a Half Marathon was motivation enough to keep on going. Around the 15K mark my legs started getting sore and I still had 6.1K to go to achieve the Half Marathon. At 15K, I had already surpassed my longest run which was 12.5K at Nature’s Harmony Run of the Grid. I though to myself that stopping at 15K would not be a failure by any means, I had already pushed forward from my previous records by 2.5K.
I convinced myself that 6.1K wasn’t much at all and I went for it. The only issue I encountered was sore legs and knees, my lungs were perfectly fine and could keep on going. I believe that once my legs are more accustomed to running I could really raise the bar for myself. Perhaps one day I will be able to complete a Full Marathon. Todays run is somewhere around my 6th to 8th run since I started running. 12.5K, a couple of 5K’s and one 11.3K run is all the training i’ve done up until this point and completing a Half Marathon in this short amount of time is incredible. I feel very proud and I have the urge to keep on going, I truly believe when we think positive we are able to push ourselves a little further and reach our goals.
